Arrest made in armed robbery of cellphone seller

A 20-year-old London man is facing charges in connection with the armed robbery of a man last month who was trying to sell a cellphone online.

A potential buyer replied to an ad for the phone the man had posted on the buy-and-sell website ‘Kijiji'. The two agreed to meet at a school on Victoria Drive on September 9. However, when the perspective buyer showed up he got in the passenger side of the seller's vehicle, pulled a gun and demanded money and property.

He then ran from the area.

The victim was not physically hurt.

Malechi Banton, 20, of London, was arrested in relation to the incident on Wednesday. He has since been charged with armed robbery, using a firearm during the commission of an indictable offence, pointing a firearm, and careless storage of a firearm.

The man remains in police custody and is scheduled to appear in London court via video on Friday.
