Half a dozen new COVID-19 cases were reported in London on Tuesday.
The Middlesex London Health Unit said the new infections bring the area's total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 1,051.
There has not been a COVID-19 related death in the region since October 15, leaving the death toll unchanged at 58.
Public health officials reported eight more people diagnosed with the virus have since recovered. That increases the number of resolved cases in London and Middlesex County to 928. London-Middlesex currently has 65 active cases.
Area long-term care and retirement homes dealing with an ongoing outbreak include Oakcrossing Retirement Living, Westmount Gardens, Chartwell London, Chelsey Park, Henley Park LTC Residence, Craigwiel Gardens, McGarrell Place, Extendicare, and PeopleCare Oak Crossing. An outbreak at Earls Court Village was declared over on Monday.
In Elgin and Oxford, there was a slight jump in cases. Southwestern Public Health, the region's health unit, reported five newly confirmed cases on Tuesday. That brings the case count up to 298. Five more people recovered from the virus to bump the number of resolved cases up to 275. Eighteen cases remain active.
Ontario logged more than 800 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday.
Public health officials reported 821 new infections, up significantly from the 704 cases recorded on Monday.
Many of Tuesday’s new cases were in Toronto, where 327 people tested positive. Another 136 are in Peel, 64 are in York Region, and 79 are in Ottawa. Those four regions have been dubbed COVID-19 hotspots and are under modified Stage 2 public safety measures.
Ontario’s total number of cases is 65,896.
Three additional people died from the virus over the past 24 hours to increase the death toll to 3,053.
There were 628 recoveries since Monday. That puts the total number of resolved cases up to 56,606.
There was an increase in the number of COVID-19 infected patients in hospitals across the province with 274 people receiving treatment. Of those, 72 are in the intensive care unit and 45 are relying on ventilators to breathe.
In the last 24 hour period, only 24,000 COVID-19 tests were conducted in Ontario. That is the lowest number of swabs to be processed in weeks.
