Impaired driving charges laid after pickup hits 2 police cruisers

A Toronto man faces charges after allegedly hitting two police cruisers with his pickup truck while impaired.

London police were called at around 11:55 p.m. Sunday about a possible impaired driver in the area of Oxford Street and Wharncliffe Road. Not long after, police were told the pickup was on Wonderland Road North. Officers looked for the truck, which was described as a black Ford Ranger.

An officer and the police canine unit spotted the truck in a parking lot on Wonderland near Oxford. According to police, the driver of the truck hit two police cruisers in the parking lot before being taken into custody.

No injuries were reported. Damage to the cruisers is estimated by police to be about $1,700.

Ahmed Muhiyadin Ali, 48, of Toronto, is charged with impaired driving and refusing to provide a breath sample.

He is to appear in court November 30.
