SIU investigating three-vehicle crash north of Aylmer

The province's police watchdog is investigating after two people were injured in a three-vehicle crash in Elgin County.

The Ontario Provincial Police said on Thursday at around 10:24 p.m., a pick-up truck that had been reported to police in a drunk driving complaint was involved in a collision with a transport truck and a passenger car.

The OPP, EMS and Malahide Fire Services responded to the crash on Ron McNeil Line in Malahide Township.

The driver and lone occupant of the pick-up truck rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, along with the driver and lone occupant of the passenger car who had suffered serious injuries. The driver and lone occupant of the transport truck was not injured in the collision.

The OPP is continuing to investigate the incident and has also notified the province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which is also investigating the incident.

The SIU is a civilian law enforcement agency that investigates incidents involving police officers where there has been death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
