Weapons incident ends peacefully

One person has been taken into police custody following a "weapons incident" in London's west end.

The London Police Service said on Friday at around 6:30 p.m., officers responded to a person in distress and reportedly in possession of a firearm inside a residence on Guildwood Boulevard. Officers were able to contain the individual to a single residence in the area.

The public was asked to avoid the area of Hyde Park Road and Fitzwilliam Boulevard while police were at the scene and nearby residents were told to shelter in place as a precaution.

At around 8:20 p.m., a man surrendered to police without incident and was taken into custody.

No one was injured during the incident and police have not said if a weapon has been recovered.

Charges are not anticipated and there is no further concern for public safety, police said.
