Pedestrian struck and killed by vehicle north of Simcoe

A pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle while walking on the side of the road in Norfolk County.

The Ontario Provincial Police said officers responded to the scene on Concession 10 in Townsend on Wednesday at around 5:36 p.m. after receiving a 911 call. Police determined a vehicle was heading westbound when the driver spotted a pickup truck parked on the road ahead. The driver swerved to avoid hitting the truck and ended up striking a pedestrian on the other side of the road.

Jeffrey Scott, 50, of Norfolk County was pronounced dead at the scene.

Concession 10 between Cockshutt Road and Blueline Road was closed for roughly six hours to allow officers to conduct an investigation.

The investigation is ongoing, police said Thursday.
