Firefighters battle second blaze at OEV home in two weeks

It was like déjà vu for firefighters, battling a blaze at the same home in Old East Village as two weeks ago.

Fire crews were called to the multi-unit house at Lyle and King streets on Monday night. A dumpster outside of the home was consumed by flames with heavy smoke filling the air. There was concern the fire would spread to the building, where six people, including a firefighter, were hurt in a fire on November 22.

However, fire crews were able to extinguish the flames before they spread to the home and no injuries were reported.

During last month's fire at the rear of the home, nearly two dozen animals — 20 cats and two dogs — had to be rescued from inside.

That fire was deemed not suspicious.
