Business Cares breaks food donation record

The shelves in the London Food Bank will be full at least into the early new year thanks to the generosity of Londoners.

Despite the hurdles of 2020, the Business Cares Food Drive brought in a record 597,123 pounds of food during its 21st annual campaign, a 34 per cent increase from last year's record total.

Campaign Chair, Wayne Dunn explained that no specific goal was set for this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“We started this campaign with a lot of unknowns. We didn’t know how we were going to run certain events with social distancing, we didn’t know if certain organizations were going to be able to participate," Dunn said.

Every year, the food drive calls on area businesses to donate food and money to ensure the food bank and the 25 organizations it supports have enough to feed those in need over the holidays and beyond.

“We’ve seen first-hand the impact that the pandemic has had on Londoners. More people are using our services and that’s only going to continue," said Jane Roy, co-director of the London Food Bank. “It’s at times like these where we see how strong of a community we have."
