Man charged in Strathroy weapons and drugs bust

Strathroy-Caradoc police say a man is facing multiple charges after a search of a residence turned up weapons and drugs.

On Friday, officers with the Criminal Invesgitation Divisions conducted a traffic stop. A man who was a passenger inside the vehicle was arrested in relation to a firearms investigation, which brought on the execution of a search warrant at an address on Head Street North.

According to police, officers seized 3.89 grams of methamphetamine, four grams of crack cocaine and 21.2 grams of fentanyl. According to police, the total estimated street value of the drugs is $11,389.

In addition, police also seized a sawed-off shotgun, 25 rounds of ammunition, two replica pistols, a replica revolver, brass knuckles, a butterfly knife, a throwing star, two expandable batons, a digital scale, $3,605 in cash and two cellphones.

As a result, 32-year-old Shane Smith of Strathroy has been charged with the following offences:

- Three counts fail to comply with undertaking - Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon - Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm - Three counts possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose - Two counts knowledge of unauthorized possession of weapon - Two counts carrying concealed weapon - Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited or restricted weapon - Three counts careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition - Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm or ammunition - Possession of a schedule 1 substance – cocaine - Possession of a schedule 1 substance – fentanyl - Possession of a schedule 1 substance - methamphetamine

The charges have not been proven in court. Smith remains in custody pending an audio appearance in a London court on Saturday.
