No one hurt in northeast London garage fire

The cause of a garage fire that sent thick black smoke into the air in northeast London is under investigation.

Firefighters were called to the home on Kaladar Drive north of Cheapside Street late Monday afternoon after fire broke out inside of a detached two-car garage. Flames and heavy smoke coming from the burning structure could be seen from several kilometres away.

Fire crews were able to extinguished the fire before it spread to neighbouring homes.

No one was hurt, but the garage is a total loss. The roof caved in and only the charred frame of the walls is still standing. An official damage estimate has not yet been released.

The owner is said to have used the garage as a workshop.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze.
