London teen charged following unprovoked stabbing

London police say a 17-year-old male is facing assault charges following an unprovoked stabbing in the city's downtown Wednesday night.

Police say the assault happened while the 33-year-old male victim was walking on Richmond Street near King Street at around 11:40 p.m. According to police, the suspect approached him from behind and allegedly stabbed him before fleeing the area.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Following an investigation that involved members of Community Foot Patrol Unit viewing video surveillance, a 17-year-old London male, who cannot be named because of his age, was charged with assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon.

The accused is scheduled to appear in London court Friday.
