Man rescued after falling through ice on northwest-end pond

A man had to be rescued from the frigid waters of a northwest London pond after he fell through the ice.

Firefighters were called to the pond on Sunday afternoon.

Fortunately, by the time they arrived a bystander had safely pulled the man from the water. He did not require medical treatment.

Fire officials said the incident serves as a reminder to Londoners that no ice is safe.

Earlier this month the city issued a similar warning to skaters to stay off of stormwater ponds as the ice that forms on them in the winter is “unstable and dangerous.”
