Tip from fast food workers leads police to $28K worth of drugs

A pit stop for burgers and fries in southeast London ended with two men in handcuffs and the seizure of more than $28,000 worth of drugs.

Workers at the McDonald's at 959 Hamilton Rd. called police after a pickup truck with a suspected impaired driver behind the wheel came through the drive-thru around 12:45 a.m. on Monday.

Officers arrived to find the truck in the restaurant parking lot.

A search of the vehicle turned up 61.4 grams of fentanyl, 27.7 grams of methamphetamine, nearly 200 hydromorph capsules, 387 ‘Gabapentin’ capsules, 249 capsules, $4,200 cash, and two digital scales. The total value of the drugs seized is an estimated $28,547.

A 31-year-old man and a 34-year-old man, both from London, were arrested. They are charged with four counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking.

The 31-year-old faces an additional charge of impaired driving.

Both men appeared in London court in relation to the charge on Monday.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
