SIU investigating after gun call

Ontario's police oversight agency is investigating after a man suffered life-threatening injuries during an interaction with London police.

Officers were called to the area of Greenway Park around 10:30 a.m. Monday for reports of a 24-year-old man believed to be armed with a handgun. Police sealed off the area, closing Wonderland Road between Springbank Drive and Riverside Drive.

During the investigation, a suspect was located near the Thames River, and London police allege that attempts to negotiate with the man were made. He was later rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries around 12:15.

The Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate and continues to investigate the incident.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the SIU at 416-622-0748 or 1-800-787-8529.
