SIU: man shot near Greenway Park passes away

The man who was rushed to hospital after suffering a gunshot wound earlier this week has died, according to the Special Investigations Unit.

The SIU says the man died on Tuesday, a day after the incident.

London police were called to the park around 10:30 a.m. Monday and found a 24-year-old man who was in distress and carrying a firearm.

"Police made attempts to negotiate with him. Shortly after, he sustained a gunshot wound and was taken to hospital for treatment," the SIU said. "Based on the preliminary information, it does not appear that any officer discharged a firearm."

The SIU probe into the incident is ongoing.

The SIU is asking anyone with information about the incident to call 1-800-787-8529. It's also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.

As an independent government agency, the SIU investigates incidents involving police officers in which there has been death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
