Man charged in disturbance at St. Thomas homeless shelter

Charges have been laid in connection with a disturbance at a St. Thomas homeless shelter that saw a fire extinguisher emptied and an employee shoved.

The incident at the downtown drop-in centre began Monday afternoon when a man began arguing with staff. He is alleged to have grabbed a fire extinguisher off the wall and discharged it before pushing an employee as he left.

St. Thomas police were called and a suspect was arrested near the shelter.

A 26-year-old St. Thomas man is charged with assault, mischief to property, and breach of release conditions.
