Ashley Oaks school closes due to COVID outbreak

A London public school is closing on Thursday due to a widespread COVID-19 exposure.

A release sent out to parents Wednesday afternoon from the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) said a high number of staff and students at Ashley Oaks Public School are required to quarantine.

"Effective Thursday, April 8, 2021, students at Ashley Oaks Public School will temporarily transition from in-person to remote learning until after the end of Spring Break on Monday, April 19," the release read.

A Blackburn News source says there are not enough supply teachers available to cover the number of staff who will be self-isolating.

According to the Thames Valley COVID-19 Alerts website, there are three active cases associated with the school.

Teachers are contacting families with follow-up information on remote learning. The Middlesex London Health Unit is working with the school to provide additional advice and support.

The school board says before and after school programs are closed until April 19. Additional programs scheduled during the spring break are also cancelled.
