Man charged after stolen vehicle crash near downtown

A London man is facing charges after a crash involving a stolen vehicle.

A woman had left her SUV running on Queens Avenue near Adelaide Street just after 9 a.m. on Monday. While she was speaking to someone a few steps away, a man got behind the wheel, locked the doors and drove away.

Roughly five minutes later, the same vehicle crashed at the intersection of Richmond and Oxford streets. The driver was seen running from the scene following the collision, London police said.

No injuries were reported.

After getting a description of the suspect from witnesses, police arrested a man on Albert Street.

A 44-year-old London man is charged with theft of a motor vehicle. He is scheduled to appear in court in relation to the charges on July 6.
