Police chase leads to arrest of suspected impaired driver

A London man faces impaired driving charges following a dramatic police chase that required a spike belt over the weekend.

At around 10:20 a.m. Sunday, a police officer in a marked cruiser says he watched another driver run a red light at the intersection of Dundas and Colborne streets.

The officer called for backup after the driver ignored their attempt at stopping him.

"A tire deflation device was deployed, and the suspect vehicle was prevented from moving further by other [London police] cruisers," police said Monday.

The suspect driver was subsequently arrested. Police say no one was injured during the ordeal.

A 37-year-old man is charged with the dangerous and impaired operation of a vehicle.

He appeared in court on Monday to respond to the charges.
