Motorcyclist hits cruiser while trying to get away from police

Charges have been laid against a 20-year-old man after a motorcycle hit a cruiser while allegedly trying to get away from London police.

An officer spotted a motorcycle that did not have a licence plate in the south end of the city just after 5 p.m. on Tuesday. While the bike was stopped at a light in the area of Wellington Road and Dingman Drive, the officer pulled his cruiser in front and activated his lights.

"As the officer exited the police vehicle and approached the driver, the man accelerated the motorcycle and attempted to flee, coming into contact with the marked police cruiser, mounting the curb and ultimately falling to the ground," police said.

The motorcyclist, who suffered minor injuries in the fall, was then arrested.

A 20-year-old London man is charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, flight from police, driving a motor vehicle with no plates, having an improper muffler, and having no insurance.

He is scheduled to appear in London court to answer to the charges on July 22.
