Man charged after attempted kidnapping of baby

A terrifying incident for a woman in London has led to an attempted abduction charge against a 22-year-old man.

According to London police, the woman had parked her car on Vinewood Court around 12:45 p.m. Thursday. She had taken her infant child and a car seat from the backseat of her vehicle when a man walked up and started talking to her.

"The conversation caused the woman to fear for the safety of her infant child," police said in a news release issued Friday.

Police say the man tried to pull the car seat from the woman's hands, but she was able to get control of it. She then went into a home and called 9-1-1.

An investigation led to the identification of a suspect and an arrest was made.

Nyatech Akuech, 22, of London, has been charged with one count of attempt to commit abduction.

Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent in online anonymously to London Elgin Middlesex Crime Stoppers.
