Officer assaulted removing woman from St. Thomas homeless camp

Charges have been laid against a woman who is accused of assaulting a St. Thomas police officer as he worked to relocate people from a church parking lot to a homeless shelter.

Police were called to the parking lot at Wellington and Southwick streets after church staff noticed people in tents on the property on Wednesday night. Officers arrived and were assisting moving the individuals to a homeless shelter when one refused to leave.

She was arrested for trespassing and is alleged to have kicked one of the officers. No injuries were reported.

A 34-year-old woman is charged with assaulting police, resisting arrest, and failure to leave a premises when directed. She has since been released from custody with a future court date.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
