OPP investigate fatal collision involving riding lawnmower

Provincial police in Norfolk County said a person was killed Saturday morning after the riding lawnmower they were driving flipped into a ditch.

According to police, emergency crews responded to the fatal collision around 10:40 a.m. at a residence on McDowell Road East in Charlotteville.

Investigators determined that an individual was operating a riding lawnmower when it went into a ditch, rolling over and trapping the driver.

Police said Good Samaritans stopped to help the person and called 911. With the help of the people at the scene, officers were able to extricate the rider.

As a result, the individual suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by the attending coroner.

The identity of the individual is being withheld until family members are notified.

The OPP's  Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation and more information is expected to be released as it becomes available.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
