Campers threatened with saw in fight over fire

A dispute over a brush fire near a campsite in St. Thomas ended with one man being arrested after two others were threatened with a handheld saw.

According to St. Thomas police, three men got into an argument about how close the fire was to where they had set up a tent on Friday. The dispute escalated with one man threatening another before charging at him with the saw.

Police did not specify where in the city the incident took place.

A 29-year-old man was arrested. He has since been charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats, possession of a controlled substance, failing to comply with a release order, and three counts of breach of probation.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
