University Hospital declares COVID-19 outbreak

For the first time in more than two months, University Hospital is dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak.

The London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) confirmed on Sunday there are fewer than five cases on the hospital's 8TU transplant unit.

Whether those infections are among staff or patients has not been released.

This is the first outbreak of the virus at University Hospital since the end of March.

As of Friday, the LHSC had 16 inpatients with COVID-19, eight of whom were listed in intensive care. There were no employees listed as having contracted the virus.

Case numbers have been trending downward across the region for the past month. Middlesex London logged just 12 new COVID-19 infections over the weekend, with no additional deaths reported since Friday.
