Crash claims life of Aylmer woman

A single vehicle collision in Elgin County has claimed the life of a young woman from Aylmer.

Elgin County OPP say the collision happened around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 3 just west of Aylmer.

"At the time of the collision a passenger car was traveling eastbound on Highway #3 when the vehicle traveled off the roadway into the south ditch colliding with a tree," police said in a news release issued Thursday. "Police, Malahide Fire, EMS and Ornge Air were on scene. The lone driver, a 24 year old resident of Aylmer was airlifted to hospital where they succumbed to their injuries."

The driver has been identified as Drew Danielle Neufeld of Aylmer.

According to her Facebook page, Drew was a graduate of East Elgin Secondary School and had studied welding at Fanshawe College. She was also an employee at Snack City Popnotch, a popcorn and snacks business in St. Thomas.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
