London man charged after stolen vehicle involved in crash

A London man faces several charges following a single-vehicle crash in the outskirts of the city Friday afternoon.

Middlesex County OPP and EMS were called to the intersection of Hyde Park Road and Medway Road at around 12:15 p.m. where they discovered an unoccupied van that had crashed into a nearby hydro pole.

The crash reportedly knocked out power to traffic lights in the intersection and some homes in the area.

After a brief foot pursuit, a suspect was located and arrested not far from where the incident took place.

According to the OPP, the vehicle was previously reported stolen by Woodstock police.

The suspect, and accused driver of the van, suffered minor injuries from the crash and was treated in hospital before he was taken into custody.

As a result, a 37-year-old London man is charged with driving while impaired, driving while prohibited, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and failing to comply with a probation order.

He is scheduled to appear in court on June 19.
