Residents of the London region may see bouts of strong thunderstorms throughout Tuesday afternoon and evening.
Environment Canada issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for London, Middlesex County, Oxford County, and Elgin County. The warning was downgraded to a watch at around 6 p.m. All watches and warnings have since been lifted.
Forecasters say conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and torrential rain. The advisory from the national weather agency says there is the chance that wind gusts could reach 90 kilometres per hour, as well as rain amounts of up to 50 millimetres.
Parts of the city are now dealing with power outages and cleaning up debris after a thunderstorm rumbled through after 4 p.m.
London fire officials say they received numerous calls of downed hydro lines, resulting in several road closures. Just after 9 p.m., London fire reported that all storm-related closures with the exception of one on St. Patrick Street have reopened.
The storms are expected to move out of the area later Tuesday evening.
