The province's police watchdog is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man whose body was recovered from the Waterford Ponds.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said on Saturday at around 7 p.m., officers with the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a call about a 42-year-old man acting erratically.  Following an interaction with the officers, the man entered the Waterford Ponds.

Police were unable to immediately locate the man and his body was ultimately recovered by the OPP Marine Unit at around 12:14 p.m. on Sunday.

The SIU has assigned two investigators and one forensic investigator to the case.  Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the SIU at 1-800-787-8529.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates incidents involving police that have resulted in death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
