Demolition of underpass to close 401 in London-area

A section of Highway 401 in the London-area will be fully closed for three nights starting Saturday.

The Ministry of Transportation said the overnight closure between Dorchester Road and Veterans Memorial Parkway Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday will allow for the demolition of the Westchester Bourne Road underpass.

All lanes, both eastbound and westbound, will be closed from 6 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday, and again from 12 a.m. to 5 a.m. Monday and Tuesday.

Detours have been set-up with eastbound traffic being rerouted via Veterans Memorial Parkway, Wilton Grove Road, Westchester Bourne Road, Cromarty Drive, and Dorchester Road. Westbound traffic will be directed to Dorchester Road, Hamilton Road, and then to Veterans Memorial Parkway.

Drivers are being told to expect "major traffic delays" throughout the overnight closures.

Construction crews have been working to build a new underpass at Westchester Bourne Road since late spring. The new structure is being built directly in front of the old one.
