London man accused of setting three downtown fires

London police have laid charges against an older man in connection to three suspicious downtown fires.

At around 11:42 p.m. Monday, police say London firefighters responded to a call in an alleyway near the area of Richmond and Dundas streets. About ten minutes after the first call, crews were notified of a second fire outside of an apartment building on Kent Street.

Both fires caused minor property damage estimated at around $150.

The next day just before 7:30 p.m., officers and firefighters were called to an active fire that was started near Richmond and Piccadilly streets. Crews were able to douse the blaze, and damage was pegged at $1,000.

On Wednesday, police confirmed a 67-year-old London man was charged with three counts of arson causing property damage.

The accused made a court appearance Wednesday.

Anyone with information relating to the incidents should call London police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
