Suspect charged in sexual assault

A Strathroy man is facing charges, accused of robbing and sexually assualting a woman in London.

According to London police, a woman was walking on Richmond Street near Carfrae Street around 11:30 p.m. Thursday when she was approached by a man who demanded property from her and sexually assaulted her. The man took off and the victim called police.

She was taken to hospital with what police described as minor injuries.

Police said Friday that Delroy Sewell, 34, of Strathroy is charged with sexual assault, robbery, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, and choking during the commission of an indictable offence.

Members of the London Police Service Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Section are appealing to anyone in the area at the time, or with information in relation to this incident, to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent in online anonymously to London Elgin Middlesex Crime Stoppers.
