UPDATE: Severe thunderstorm watch ends

Several areas experienced heavy rainfall Sunday afternoon as severe thunderstorm watches and warnings were issued.

A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for London-Middlesex, Elgin and Oxford Counties, Goderich, Stratford, Huron-Perth, and Wingham just before 2:30 p.m. Environment Canada ended the severe thunderstorm watch for the listed areas shortly after 7 p.m.

Environment Canada upgraded the thunderstorm watch to a warning for several areas shortly before 4 p.m. However, all severe thunderstorm warnings were downgraded back to a watch around 4:30 p.m.

The national weather agency was tracking a line of severe thunderstorms from Port Stanley but later said severe thunderstorms have weakened or moved out of the region.

The severe thunderstorm watches and warnings were issued a couple of hours after Environment Canada issued a heat warning for most of southwestern Ontario.
