Apartment fire sparks in London's east end

A firefighter was hurt while battling an apartment fire on Mornington Avenue.

The London Fire Department said crews were called to eighth floor of the building Sunday night. Heavy, black smoke could be seen billowing from the apartment when firefighters arrived on scene. They were able to quickly extinguish the blaze.

No residents were hurt, but one firefighter was sent to hospital with a muscle strain.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A damage estimate has not been released.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
