Stolen pickup truck set ablaze on side of 402

A vehicle fire on the side of Highway 402 near Strathroy has left police searching for a suspect.

The stolen black pickup truck was set on fire and abandoned on the westbound shoulder of the highway near the Hickory Drive exit around 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

The fire sent thick black smoke into the air and presented a serious danger to other vehicles passing by in the westbound lanes.

A photo posted to social media by Middlesex OPP shows the passenger door left open as flames engulf the pickup.

Police have not said where the truck was reported stolen from.

Anyone with information about the theft or vehicle fire is asked to call police at 1-888-310-1122.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
