SIU probing crash involving London police cruiser

Ontario's police watchdog is investigating a two-vehicle crash involving a police cruiser in east London.

The collision between the cruiser and another vehicle happened at the intersection of Queens Avenue and Quebec Street around 4 p.m. Saturday.

Two people inside the civilian vehicle were hurt. They were taken to hospital, however, the extent of their injuries is not known.

The province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was notified about the collision and invoked its mandate.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates incidents involving police that have resulted in death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
