Careless driving charge laid in crash that overturned transport

A 59-year-old driver has been charged after a two-vehicle crash east of St. Thomas left a transport truck upside down.

A minivan and a tractor trailer hauling large steel coils collided at the intersection of Highway 3 and Quaker Road around 7:15 a.m. on Thursday. The truck and trailer overturned in the crash, sending the coils and other debris across the busy lanes of Highway 3. The minivan ended up in the grassy ditch.

The drivers of both vehicles were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the minivan has since been charged with careless driving.

Highway 3 was closed in both directions between Yarmouth Centre Road and Quaker Road into the afternoon as crews worked to remove the coils and overturned transport. OPP announced its re-opening shortly after 2 p.m.
