Fire crews respond to crash, vehicle fire on 401 EB

A crash on the 401 outside near Dorchester caused delays for drivers trying to get out of the city ahead of the holiday weekend.

Sometime before 4 p.m. Friday, emergency crews responded to a report of a crash involving one vehicle on fire on the eastbound 401 near Veterans Memorial Parkway. As a result, the incident snarled traffic on the highway past Highbury Avenue.

Platoon Chief Colin Shewell of the London Fire Department said firefighters arrived and the fire was out a short time later.

"There may be some residual traffic issues out that way but we have cleared the scene," Shewell told Blackburn News just before 5 p.m.

No other details on injuries have been provided at this time.
