London cop charged in domestic assault

A London police officer has been placed on desk duty after being accused of assaulting a woman while off duty.

London police announced Friday afternoon that the officer is charged with assault. According to police, the 36-year-old officer is accused of assaulting a woman he had been in a relationship with on Thursday, September 9. The incident was reported to police on Friday, September 10.

"The 36-year-old officer and female victim had been involved in a relationship, therefore, to protect the identity of the woman, the officer’s name will not be released," police said in a news release.

Police say the officer has been with the London Police Service for 14 years. He is to appear in court on December 9.

"As this matter is before the courts, the London Police Service will not comment further," police said.
