Police identify woman killed in north end shooting

Police have identified a 30-year-old woman as the victim of a fatal shooting in London's north end.

The London Police Service said officers responded to the area of Wateroak Drive and Heardcreek Trail at around 7:55 p.m. on Friday after receiving reports of multiple gunshots.  A woman was found at the scene and rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries where she later succumbed to her injuries.

On Sunday, police identified the woman as 30-year-old Lynda Cruz Marques.

Police said the incident is believed to have been a targeted attack and there is no threat to public safety at this time.

The London Police Major Crime Unit is continuing to conduct a homicide investigation, which is still in its early stages.

Police are appealing to any members of the public who may have recorded dashcam video footage in the area of Wateroak Drive between 4 p.m. and 7:55 p.m., on Friday to contact police.  Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to contact London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
