Young teen charged in hit and run

What appeared to be a joyride for a young Woodstock teen went south quickly according to police.

Woodstock police say a 14-year-old male is accused of fleeing the scene of a crash after he allegedly hit another vehicle last Thursday.

Police say they were called about a hit and run crash at around 11 p.m. September 23. According to police, the driver took off from the scene after they slammed into a parked car.

Following the incident, the responding officers sent out a notice asking other police officers to keep an eye out for the suspect vehicle. The vehicle was found abandoned a short time later in Putnam by Middlesex County OPP.

On Tuesday, Woodstock police announced a 14-year-old Woodstock boy had been arrested last Friday and charged with taking a vehicle without consent, failing to remain at the scene of a crash and driving without a licence.

The identity of the young male is not being released as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
