Fire breaks out above downtown bar

London fire officials say no one was injured after a fire broke out above a bar on Richmond Street.

At around 5 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters were called to the Richmond Tavern on the corner of Richmond and King streets for a structure fire.

When crews arrived heavy smoke could be seen coming from above the main floor of the bar. Firefighters worked to stop the blaze from spreading to the upper floors and had the fire under control a short time later.

Everyone got out of the building safely.

Damage has been pegged at $25,000. The blaze was likely caused by a carelessly discarded cigarette, fire officials have said.
