Heavy rainfall possible as special weather statement issued for London area

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the London area due to possible heavy rainfall.

The statement is in effect for London, Middlesex County, Elgin County, and Oxford County.

The weather agency said heavy rain is expected to move into the region Sunday evening and last through Monday. By the time it is finished, some areas could see up to 50mm of rain.

"This rainfall is due to a low-pressure system that is forecast to track northeast across southern Ontario on Monday," said the statement. "Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible."

It's expected to be cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of showers Sunday afternoon.
