Attempted theft leads to drug bust

London police say two people face charges after officer responding to a theft at a retail store ending up seizing drugs and a replica firearm from the suspects.

According to police, officers were called to White Oaks Mall around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday regarding a report of a theft from a retail store. When officers arrived, two suspects tried to take off in a vehicle, but were arrested.

Police say a search of the vehicle turned up 21 grams of cocaine, seven grams of crack cocaine, 21.5 oxycodone pills, 63 grams of cutting agent, two cellular phones, and $1,107 in cash.

A 35-year-old St. Thomas woman and a 39-year-old London man are charged with possession of a Schedule 1 substance, possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking, and theft under $5,000.

The woman is also charged with dangerous driving and flight from a peace officer.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
