Chocolate burglars steal truck filled with $100K worth of candy

Provincial police in Norfolk County are investigating after some thieves, who appeared to have quite a sweet tooth, made off with a transport truck full of chocolate.

OPP officers were called about the theft at around 3 p.m. on Monday. Investigators determined a transport truck and trailer filled with Hershey and Ferrero Rocher chocolate was stolen from a business on Vittoria Road in Charlotteville sometime on Saturday. The stolen chocolate is valued at approximately $100,000, police said.

On Tuesday, the OPP confirmed the truck has been recovered after it was left somewhere in the Peel Region. However, the trailer and the chocolate are still missing.

"Investigators are in the process of reviewing video surveillance in an attempt to identify those responsible," police said in a statement.

Anyone with information about the candy crooks is asked to call OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or make an anonymous report by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
