Man sought after shots fired in east London

London police are looking for a man who is accused of firing a gun in the east-end of the city over the weekend.

Reports of gunfire being heard on Hamilton Road, east of Highbury Avenue began coming into police around 11:45 p.m on Saturday. Officers investigating the incident found surveillance footage that, according to police, confirms that a man discharged a gun in the area.

No injuries were reported and a weapon has yet to be recovered, police said.

The suspect in the incident is described as a Black man, approximately 19-years-old and clean-shaven. He was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt with a black and red logo on the front and grey sweatpants.

Anyone with information about the identity of the suspect or about the incident is asked to call police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Concerns over increasing gun violence in the city earlier this year prompted London police to launch a new task force made up of investigators, crime analysts, and other specialists. During the first half of the year, there were more than a dozen incidents involving gunfire in London. That compares to just 14 incidents in all of 2020.
