Lotto makes Strathroy woman a millionaire

A Strathroy woman has a million reasons to be glad she decided to buy a lottery ticket.

Ontario Lottery and Gaming announced Monday that Karen Whiteford won $1,000,000 in the Instant Big 10 lottery.

The 68-year-old learned of her win in the middle of the night. She told lottery officials that she was woke up at 2:30 a.m. and couldn't get back to sleep, so she played her instant lotto game.

"I had to get my magnifying glass to check I actually won $1 million," she said.

Whiteford says she plans to help her family with her win, buy a car, and complete some small renovations.

"I will use some for Christmas presents," she added.

The winning ticket was purchased at Canadian Tire Gas Bar on Caradoc Street in Strathroy.
