Charge laid in fatal hit and run

Provincial police in Oxford County say a charge has been laid in connection with a fatal hit and run near Thamesford.

Just before 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, emergency crews were called to a report of a two vehicle collison on the 15th Line of Zorra Township.

"Investigation determined that a vehicle struck a golf cart that was occupied by an adult female and two small children. The vehicle fled the scene," police said in a news release issued Wednesday. "The operator of the golf cart was transported to hospital with life threatening injuries, where she later died. The children were treated for minor injuries."

The victim has been identified as Mary Hendriksen, 60, of Thamesford.

Police later found the vehicle and arrested a suspect.

A 35-year-old Lakeside man is charged with failing to stop at an accident resulting in death.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
