St. Thomas man identified as driver killed in collision with transport

The man killed last week in a two-vehicle crash involving a transport truck in downtown Aylmer has been identified as a 56-year-old from St. Thomas.

Steven Chute was behind the wheel of an SUV that was heading east on Talbot Street near King Street when the vehicle collided with a westbound tractor trailer around 11:20 p.m. last Tuesday. The force of the crash caused the SUV to roll onto its roof.

Chute was pronounced dead at the scene.

The trucker was not hurt.

Talbot between John and Queen streets was closed for approximately six hours while police investigated the cause of the collision.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
