Elderly pedestrian killed by train in Ingersoll

Provincial police in Oxford County are looking for additional information about a fatal train collision that happened in Ingersoll over the weekend.

At around 11 a.m. Sunday, emergency crews were called to the railway tracks on Thames Street between Victoria and St. Andrew streets for a report of a collision involving a train and a pedestrian.

Police say a 78-year-old individual was struck and pronounced deceased on scene. The road was closed for several hours while officers investigated and crews cleared the area.

Oxford County OPP, CN Rail Police and the Office of the Chief Coroner continue to investigate the incident.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call police at 1-888-310-1122  or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
